Who founded Orejas?

Orejas was founded by Wenjia Wang, an environmental engineer by training and a lover of beauty and art at heart. Her passion for sustainability and frustration with the current trend-obsessive and careless consumption culture led her to the discovery of sustainable fashion. Having a strong belief in business as an engine for driving cultural change, she set on the journey of creating Orejas.

Wenjia grew up in Beijing, China and has been living across the world since 2011, in Australia, the United States, and now Singapore. 

How do you pronounce Orejas? And why this name? 

Orejas is a spanish word, meaning  “ears”. /Oh-reh-hah-s/ is good enough for us. But if you want to impress your friends, curl that tongue.

Wenjia studied Spanish on-and-off for a few years. Sadly, not much had stuck with her. But during that time, she discovered the Spanish band La Oreja de Van Gogh. So the word “Oreja(s)” is permanently burned into her brain. Also, isn’t Orejas a fun word just to say and to write? Orejas. Orejas. Orejas. 

Are you a sustainable fashion brand?

We really want to say yes, or at least we are trying very hard to be one. We developed a sustainability guideline, on which we base our business decisions and daily operations. We made a point to work selectively with low-impact natural materials and vetted facilities.

But we have to admit to ourselves that there are still so many improvements that we can make, e.g. working with better dye shops, incorporating more recycled materials, offering quantified data on how our products are faring environmentally, facilitating a take-back program for post-consumer Orejas products… We look up to companies like Eileen Fisher and Patagonia and are excited about the prospects of making all of these into reality, but we have to acknowledge that it will be a long way to go. For every step we take, though, it will be for the better.

What fabrics do you use? 

Currently, the entire collection is made with fabrics in either knitted or woven format, with 55% hemp and 45% GOTS-certified organic cotton.

We are an advocate for high-quality and low-impact natural materials, and we are working on introducing more sustainable materials into our collection.

Where are your products made? 

All of our products are (proudly) made in China, with care. We believe it’s time to debunk the stereotypes associated with Made-in-China, as China’s garment industry boasts advanced technologies, a highly-skilled labor force, and a well-regulated welfare system.

Our current collection was made at a small-scale factory in Shandong Province, east of China. All of the workers there are from local villages, meaning they can go home to their family and children every day after work. And they are paid around 100% higher than the local minimum wage.

To amp up our compliance efforts, we are currently surveying additional certified factories for our future collections.

Where do you ship? How much does the shipping cost 

We ship worldwide!

All orders will be fulfilled within 2 business days. We provide a standard shipping option at a flat rate of USD$5 for orders below USD$80 and free shipping for orders equal to and above USD$80 after discount. Shipping usually takes between 10 to 14 calendar days, depending on your shipping destination.

How do I return or exchange my order? 

You can return or exchange any order within 45 days of the purchase date. For returns, a restocking fee of $5 will be deducted from the original payment.
